Carpet Track News
Last week we signed the lease for the old Family Dollar Store. This is a huge milestone for the club. All the hard work, dedication and participation, from everyone involved since the beginning of October 2008 has paid off. We now have a permanent indoor carpet track and dedicated outdoor space for summer racing. There have certainly been some bumps along the way, but when the day is done, we have accomplished what many others have only dreamed of… A Permanent Race Facility; Organized, Paid For, and Managed by, On Road Racers!! Congratulations to Everyone!

We will take possession of the new space on July 1st, 2009. Between now and then, we will put together a game plan for the move, and discuss the available options for track layout and pit area. Date for a meeting will be announced soon; please plan to attend if possible.

I look forward to a successful outdoor season, being able to race carpet over the summer, and the upcoming winter indoor season.

Outdoor Track Pictures
The gallery has been updated with pictures of our outdoor track. You can check them out here.

Also, although there will be no racing this Sunday (Mother's Day), Jim Hiller is considering opening the track for practice (normal fees will apply). If you'd like to come out, head over to RCTech and let us know in the forum. The track will not be prepared, and there will be no scoring.

Outdoor Racing Info
As we ramp up for outdoor season, here's the latest info on our racing program, and about everything you'll need to know to get ready for the asphalt!

  • We will be racing this Sunday in front of the old Target building across the street (east) from the carpet track. This will be the first race of the season, and aside from taking Mother's Day off next week, we will race every Sunday (weather permitting) through the end of August.

  • All members please try and make it this Saturdy for setup.

  • Racing will be $15/$5 for members, and $20/$10 for non-members. These prices may seem high, but we have a hefty rent and fencing bill to pay, and with no money, we will have no racing.

  • The West Metro Fire Department was kind enough to hook up and wash the racing area today. we will be holding an event which all proceeds will be donated to the fire house across the street (west) from the track.

  • The track is going to be roughly 175' long by 100' deep. We are going to try and work in a removable barrier for the electric cars if they feel that is too long.

  • The track layout will be chosen on Saturday morning.

  • We will be running the same layout 'till people start complaining (about a month) and then choose another. If you want to be involved in this process, please bring a drawing and thick skin to the track Saturday morning. If you choose not to show up, then you will not be alowed to complain.

  • The fenced area will be 182'x114', enough room for scoring, drivers' stand and marshalling area. There will be no pitting inside the fenced area. There will be a 28' opening behind the drivers stand for access to the track.

  • The barriers are going to be the same as last year, but we have been talking about how to improve them. We will be using the knowledge that we have gained from the indoor season to make the corners more car friendly now that we can leave the track up. Improvements will be made depending on funds.

  • Nitro cars will not be permitted to run until 10:00 am. If you choose to run yours before 10 am you will be reminded of the rule. If you do it again, you will be asked to leave, and not permitted to race. We are doing this for the neighbors, as we want to say here for a while, please work with us on this one.

  • Pifler's has agreed to once again sponsor the club for the season, kicking in $1600. We will get half up front and the other half when our patronage in their facility reaches 2.5 times that amount. (These are the same terms we worked out for the indoor season, and we did that in one month.)

  • Key holders are really cool, and we would like to have more of them. Please see an officer if you would like to be one for the sale price of $100/month.

  • Keyholders will race and practice for free, along with being able to have their own pit spot at the carpet track. Only keyholders will be premitted to leave personal belongings or have reserved pit area at the carpet track.

  • The decisions that have been made, have been either voted on by the club or made by the board and officers in for what we feel are the best intrests of the club. If, for some reason you feel that we have made an error in judgement, please bring it to our attention in a private, responsable and respectable manner, and we will do our best to try and please you all. There will be glitches and hiccups, but please work with us and remember, as we enter only our second outdoor season that the club now is bringing you 2 permemant racing facilities, and racing 3 time a week.

Change of Officers
As some of you already know Art Scrimo and David Hassett have both resigned as officers of the club, effective immediately.

The Board of Directors has appointed interim officers Gabe Kemm as Secretary and Mike Hinds as V.P. Pavement.

I would like to thank both Gabe and Mike for stepping up to fill the void and supporting the club.

Key Member Fees
We are currently looking at reducing the Key Member fees from $150.00 a month to $100.00.

In order to do this, we need 22 current members to commit for a period of four months at this new rate to move forward.

There are currently 18 members who have made this commitment.

If you are interested in committing, please email Gabe at gckemm(at)gmail.com by Wednesday evening.

We will let everyone know if enough people have committed on Thursday
